Smoothie Haul

Smoothie, my noun for a nutritious breakfast on the go, packed with super foods that keep you energized and full.

Whether you blend one up at home or order from your local juicery, smoothies make a perfect meal in the morning or an afternoon snack. I love making smoothies, in fact, I dedicate a drawer in my freezer just for smoothie ingredients.

Over the past few years, I’ve read up on some super foods that provide nutrients to the body and fuel for the tummy. From green smoothies to berry smoothies, I have my go-to smoothie ingredients for the perfect recipe.

So, what do I keep in my smoothie drawer in the freezer? Take a look inside!

  • Assorted frozen fruits. My go-to’s are mixed berries, mango, pineapple, grapes
  • Acai packs from Sambazon. I opt for the unsweetened variety.
  • Spinach or kale, if I don’t have the fresh stuff in the fridge

Alright, we have the frozen drawer covered. What other ingredients do I like to blend up?

  • Non-fat plan greek yogurt
  • Orange Juice
  • Almond Milk
  • Chia seeds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Bananas
  • Nut butters
  • Unsweetened Cocoa
  • Oats

If you blend it, they will drink it… I’ve made some just OKAY concoctions, but I’ve also made some that had others thinking, how is this healthy? I like to keep it balanced most of the time, and my favorite smoothie recipes are the following.

Acai Berry Smoothie

  • 1/2 Cup almond milk
  • 1/2 Cup orange juice
  • 1/2 Cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 1 Acai pack
  • 3/4 Cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 handful of fresh spinach or 1/2 Cup frozen spinach
  • 1/2 Cup frozen mango

Blend well, and add about 5-6 ice cubes (optional – I like my smoothies thick!), and blend some more. For some added texture, sprinkle the top with shredded coconut! Serve and enjoy
